Power device enables flexible power distribution in next-gen E/...

The RAJ2810024H12HPD enables abnormal current detection through an advanced current detection function. Because the new IPD detects such abnormal currents even at low loads, designers can design highly safe and accurate power control systems that detect even the smallest anomalies.

In a conventional distributed E/E architecture, power from the battery is distributed via long, comparatively thick conductors from a power box with mechanical relays and fuses to each individual electronic control unit (ECU). IPDs are maintenance-free compared to mechanical relays. They can therefore be placed anywhere in the vehicle. As the automotive industry moves towards centralised or zone-oriented E/E architectures, IPDs become an ideal choice for building efficient and flexible power supply networks. This is because they use shorter and thinner wires. Renesas’ IPD offers a more efficient, reliable and smaller solution for power distribution control, the manufacturer promises. Mobile Transformer

Renesas offers the Power Distribution Box with E-Fuse, a solution using an existing IPD. By replacing the conventional fuses in the power distribution box with small IPDs and programming the characteristics of the fuses in the microcontroller, designers can optimise the wiring harness. At the same time, reliability can be improved by monitoring the current.

Key features of the IPD (RAJ2810024H12HPD) include a single-channel high-side IPD, a low on-resistance (Ron) of 2.3 mΩ at 25°C (typ.), accurate current sensing at low loads, self-diagnostic feedback through load current measurement, and protection functions such as load short-circuit, overheat detection and GND open protection.

The device comes in a compact TO-252-7 package (6.10 x 6.50 mm excluding pins). It supports 3.3 V/5 V logic interface and complies with AEC-Q100 and RoHS automotive standards.

The solution is part of Renesas’ “Winning Combinations”. These consist of optimally matched Renesas building blocks that work together smoothly. This reduces design risk for users and shortens time-to-market.

The RAJ2810024H12HPD is available immediately in sample quantities; series production is scheduled for Q1/2024.
