Temperley London's New Collaboration with Romo Fabrics Is a Maximalist's Dream

The partnership between the English fashion house and the luxury fabric brand is a treasure trove of quirky motifs and vibrant colors.

In the past decade, minimalist interior design–often marked by clean lines, neutral color palettes, and earthy textures–has been a mainstream go-to. But, just like most things, interior design aesthetics always move in a pendulum swing. Could it be that maximalism is on its way back en vogue? Are people hungry for the return of visual feasts at home? Fashion brand Temperley London's new collaboration with Romo fabrics signals that the answer may be yes. Linen Effect Fabric

"I collect eclectic pieces for my own home, and when you collect things that you love, you want them around you as they tell your story; it's what makes a home a home," Alice Temperley MBE tells Town & Country.

The collaboration between the two brands is a marriage of fashion and home where animal motifs and leopard print play happily together. Temperley founded her company in 2000, and has since been a lighthouse for bohemian elegance that certainly doesn't shy away from eye-catching, statement pieces. Her dresses are often sequined and suits are doused in bright colors. There's a wow-factor to each piece, and that very essence in her clothing translates into the velvets, silks, and other materials produced by Romo Fabrics. For the collaboration, motifs, such as her signature antique key pattern, are utilized in wallpapers and upholstery that could easily adorn one's walls, pillows, ottomans, and more.

"We worked with Romo on the color palette, this was tweaked and amended to transform [the collection] from the world of fashion to interiors," Temperley says. "There are complimentary hues and an overarching thread running throughout the collection so customers can mix and layer."

Truly, the selection tugs at the hearts of those who believe that the eye should always wander in a room, or that more is more. The wallpapers available play to an English love for florals, but also feature depictions of big cats hanging in tree branches next to monkeys, while other prints are a kaleidoscope of geometrical patterns. The cushion fabrics, too, are whimsical. For further dramatic effect, the collaboration also introduces a new selection of tassels made in deep, silky colors that add a slight shine to the objects they adorn.

For Emily Mould, the design director of Romo, the partnership between Temperley London and Romo fabrics was one with effortless synergy. " Our shared ethos for quality and attention to detail enabled us to take this collection to new heights," Mould tells T&C. "This journey was an exciting change in direction for us and resulted in a truly inspiring collection that we loved working on together. The partnership has enabled us to explore new techniques and a different style by embracing the maximalist look of Temperley London whilst staying true to our iconic Romo aesthetic."
